Heather has over 20 years of communications, business analysis, organizational development, and usability experience in the high tech, life sciences, and professional services industries. As of July, 2009, she is working on a book manuscript, some social media and portal side projects, is contracting with Earley & Associates (providing business development and project direction services) and tends a subacre organic veggie farm.
Serving as Phena CEO for the past 8 years Heather was responsible for overseeing and coordinating the execution of Phena marketing, service delivery, and practice development activities. Heather's experience as an accomplished principal consultant in usability, communcations, interactive design, and organizational development significantly shaped the Phena staff and its delivery accomplishments.
Prior to joining Phena, Heather served as Director, Interactive Marketing for DuPont Pharmaceutical Company (now part of Bristol-Myers Squib). She played the lead role in the development and implementation of interactive branding and marketing strategy for a $50M online nutraceutical and wellness e-marketplace, managing several interactive agency vendors and integrating web strategy amongst major partners including WebMD and Marks & Spencer.
Prior to joining DuPont Pharma, Heather was a Program Manager in the Enterprise Web Management organization of IBM, and led web governance and change management activities as a key member of the "e-care for Business Partners" Web Initiative Team. She drove a $15M decrease in web/content development spend and facilitated acceptance of standard branding, analytics, and hosting choices in the Business Partner business units, effectively reducing content and infrastructure costs by 60%.
Earlier in her career as a senior manager in the DuPont Company, Heather led digital strategy efforts for global employee communications, implemented the initial content management systems for the company, evangelized the use of online communities for employee and marketing purposes, and served as companywide usability champion. From 1990 to 1996, Heather served in several positions for DuPont, Hewlett-Packard, and Unisys providing organization development, usability, instructional design and communications services and leadership.
Heather received an MS with honors in Organizational Dynamics from University of Pennsylvania and received a dual major honors BS in Biomedical Science and English from Grand Valley State University, where she was recently named a Distinguished Alumna in Residence. She volunteers with the Food Bank of Delaware and the U of DE Community Garden, teaches meditation courses at her local yoga studio, and lives in Middletown, Delaware with her husband, where they both tend a large organic vegetable garden.
